 A Reliant Bash--ISS Amazon--Finished 7/7
After finishing up the Protector, and wanting to build while waiting on the arrival of my 1/1000 refits, I decided to do a bashup on a Reliant I picked up off Evil Bay. I'd picked up some various mods for this, including: Saucer correction kit and Shuttlebay from Federation Models Ascension Class nacelles from Federation Models Saucer mounted deflector from PNT. We start like I did with the Odysseus, and get a plan of how I want to work. Here are the basic schematics, modified from my own "Breakstone" class http://s432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45 ... ISS-00.jpgOne of the first things I did was lay out the cuts in the hull. I won't actually be MAKING said cuts until I have the hull halves glued together. http://s432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45 ... ISS-01.jpg"Hull Correction" parts glued into place on the lower hull. http://s432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45 ... ISS-02.jpgResin shuttlebay assembled, and awaiting primer. http://s432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45 ... ISS-03.jpghttp://s432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45 ... ISS-04.jpgNow, the real fun begins: Making the PNT deflector work with the different shape of the Reliant hull took a bit of modification from the work it fit it into the Enterprise. Since the grid doesn't line up completely, and the hull has a different profile, I opted to take a different path and modify both parts to fit my needs. http://s432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45 ... ISS-05.jpgThe new deflector has been glued into place, and basic putty work has been done using Aves Apoxie Sculpt. The Nacelles have been epoxied together as well, but will need some work once dry. http://s432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45 ... ISS-06.jpg

That's interesting take on the Miranda class.

The original inspiration was from the old "Starship Creator" program. Been tweaked a couple of times since

 Re: A New Bash Begins--ISS Amazon--WIP 02/14
Update on the build: Got the struts assembled tonight, then made the cuts to get the pieces I needed for the Amazon. Removed the middle of the strut with a razor saw to give me the phaser cannons and my strut pieces. http://s432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45 ... ISS-07.jpgHere we have the struts mounted to the nacelles. I need to go in now, and fill the joint as well as the slots for the Enterprise struts and a couple of air bubbles in the noses of the nacelles http://s432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45 ... ISS-08.jpg

Precision cuts. Looking good, so far.

 Re: A New Bash Begins--ISS Amazon--WIP 03/01
Some more progress made tonight. After filling the strut slots and air pockets in the nacelles, I sanded the putty work tonight. http://s432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45 ... ISS-09.jpgAfter gluing the shuttlebay into the main hull, I glued the upper and lower halves together. Then, with a cutting disk in my Dremel, I made the rough cutouts in the hull. I did my best to stay 1/8" to 1/16" off my guide lines to allow for error. http://s432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45 ... ISS-10.jpghttp://s432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45 ... ISS-11.jpg

The real trick is finishing the cuts up to right where you want them.

That it is, Grey, which brings us to tonight's update. Took my Dremel, with a sanding drum this time, and cleaned up the rough hull cuts. Also brought them even with my guide lines. Then I took some sheet styrene and glued it in place with CA to fill the gaps. Another round with the Dremel to even things out, and I called it a night. http://s432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45 ... Thanks, Grey. Tomorrow, I should start working on filling. Then I can think about things like final assembly and paint/decals

 Re: A Reliant Bash--ISS Amazon--WIP 03/02
Had to fix one of the long filler panels as the CA popped off. Luckily, it seems that Testor's liquid cement will bond that plastic to the kit styrene.
I also cast the torpedo tubes (using the Reliant kit parts as a pattern) and finished assembly of the phaser cannon. Tomorrow, I'll likely try to start working on some seam filling on the main hull.

 Re: A Reliant Bash--ISS Amazon--WIP 03/02
Okay, got off my lazy butt and decided to post more pics of her tonight: Here, we have the mostly finished phaser cannon assemblies. They still need to be trimmed to the correct angle on the model. Also on this pic are the plasticene molds I'm using for the castings of the torpedo tubes. The resin hasn't set up yet, but is in process. http://s432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45 ... ISS-14.jpgTorpedo tubes after being pulled from the molds, cleaned up a little, and cut to the size I'll need for the model. http://s432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45 ... ISS-15.jpgBasic assembly now complete. Nacelles are in place, as are the torpedos, phaser cannon, bridge, deflector and sensor dome. http://s432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45 ... ISS-16.jpgAt this point, I'll likely primer her up tomorrow night and see what I'm up against as far as additional sanding goes.

Now, it's really starting to look cool.

Sadly, I couldn't get any primer on her tonight. One of the filler panels came loose, and it was raining

 Re: A Reliant Bash--ISS Amazon--WIP 03/08
All right. Was unable to primer due to rain last night, but I got her primered tonight. http://s432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45 ... ISS-17.jpghttp://s432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45 ... ISS-18.jpghttp://s432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45 ... ISS-19.jpgAt this point, I'm seriously considering keeping her a base grey, rather than painting her white. I also printed up her markings, and a set of Arthur Pendragon's Reliant aztecs for her.
